Cyclofresh®: Actively fighting unpleasant smell

There’s even a variation of Cyclofresh® that will release fresh smells into the air as soon as your shirt starts to get sticky. And all of this is achieved through natural based substances, in keeping with the trend for intelligent and effective functional clothes.
Locked-in freshness
Cyclofresh® is an innovative technology for garments worn next to the skin. It works by preventing the development of unpleasant body odors within the textile in an intelligent way. All the sweat that gets into a fabric treated with Cyclofresh® is absorbed and locked into the Cyclofresh® molecules – preventing bad odors from being generated in the fabric, without using anti-microbial ingredients, but skin friendly and natural based ones. During the next laundry, the sweat is quickly washed out, actually regenerating the performance for long lasting protection.
Cyclofresh® senses when it needs to become active. As soon as damp sweat reaches the garment, pleasant aromas are released which mask unpleasant bodily odors and the sweat itself is locked away inside Cyclofresh® molecules. The product is recharged through washing. The whole technology is based on raw materials such as plants which are all biodegradable. Cyclofresh® provides added value to a fashion brand by adding extra functionality to the garment.
Cyclofresh® is delivered in a liquid form. The application of Cyclofresh® can be integrated into existing manufacturing processes – either by using the pad process or the exhaust method, depending on the fabric being used.
Most textiles made out of natural or synthetic fabrics can be treated with Cyclofresh®, e.g. cotton, linen, viscose, polyester, polyamide, polyacrylic, wool and wool mixtures. Textile softeners like Belfasin® or Adasil® can be combined, and fragrances can be added in a second phase. Of course individual solutions can be developed as needed for further treatments.
Technology inspired by natural laws
Better performance and fewer additives – just what today’s market demands. In fact, skin compatibility and mildness is a key issue that Cyclofresh® tackles head on. Cyclofresh® battles bad smells in the textile even before they develop. This is achieved through catching the body’s secretions from the skin, such as sweat, which are responsible for the development of bodily odors within the textile. The process is based on cyclodextrin, a circular sugar molecule, derived from starch by adding enzymes – mainly from maize. Cyclofresh® is based on this renewable, natural raw material that is entirely biodegradable and very skin-compatible.
All cyclodextrin molecules are built like little tumblers and can absorb what are known as ‘guest’ molecules. From the outside they are surrounded by a hydrophilic edge, but the cavity on the inside is hydrophobic and does not bind to water. Making optimal use of this storage property, Cyclofresh® uses cyclodextrins for a dual purpose: to store fragrances to be released, and to capture the organic molecules of sweat that cause unpleasant smells. In both cases, the mechanism is triggered by the moisture that develops when a person sweats.
The cyclodextrins contained in Cyclofresh® can be strongly embedded into the fabric. Even after machine washing they remain active, ready to soak up new particles from sweat after the old ones are washed out. Or to release particles absorbed from fragrances contained in washing detergents and fabric softeners, thus giving the consumer an opportunity to personalize the scent of their clothing. The number of washes cyclodextrin survives depends on the particular material being used.
