With Skintex®* active care from our holding company Cognis, clothes can provide a sense of well-being that you can really feel. A highly sophisticated fabric ingredient, Skintex®* helps take gentle care of tired feet, releases the body from the stresses of everyday life with invigorating aromas and gives you a velvety soft skin feeling. In fact, it can even banish mosquitoes. If washed according to instructions, Skintex®* lasts several washes.

High-tech microcapsules are built directly into the fabric and release their caring natural based ingredients like Myritol® and menthol. In fact, the fresh Skintex®* effect is ideal for fashion which is worn close to the skin. Skintex®* chemicals are made from naturally occurring materials. Indeed, all the ingredients used have a well established reputation for good skin care. A wide range of fragrances can be used, making Skintex®* a key competitive differentiator for fashion collections.

Textiles with a moisturizing effect
Clothes equipped with Skintex®* can also deliver a valuable skin care regime all day long – making underwear or shirts active players in your long-term skin care needs. Microcapsules filled with natural based high-grade care ingredients like Vitamin E, passion fruit oil, Monoï de Tahiti or Squalane (derived from olive oil) are released gradually onto the skin, ensuring a supply over many hours. The appearance of extremely dry skin may be noticeably improved. And because its effects can last over several washes, it is a helpful solution for well-being and moisturized skin. Skintex®* is good for all kinds of skin.

Mosquito repellent
If you like being in the great outdoors, then you have little choice but to keep reapplying cream from tip to toe – or be bitten by mosquitoes. Fabrics containing Skintex®* mosquito repellent, gradually released over time, put an end to all that. Skintex®* protection can be applied to a variety of materials and contains well proven ingredients that have been successfully used for decades. Furthermore, the effect lasts at least five hand washes.

Revitalize tired and heavy legs
How do you feel after a long stressful day without ever being able to rest your legs? Have you ever suffered from tired, heavy-feeling legs. For all those who are all too familiar with these discomforts, Cognis offers a convenient, refreshing, and stimulating solution: legwear treated with Skintex*. Simply by wearing such legwear, natural-source ingredients are gradually released from microcapsules that keep the sensation of the tired and heavy-feeling at bay. Legs feel revitalized and refreshed and, at the same time, a feeling of well-being is promoted. Skintex* is based on essential oils that are gained from vegetable sources like plants and fruits.

Energizing aromatherapy
Skintex®* microcapsules can also be filled with high-grade ingredients that slowly release a revitalizing aroma. All ingredients are based on plants and fruits like menthol, orange, ginger, or rosemary. This application is especially suitable for clothing worn around the house such as bathrobes. Even after a number of washes Skintex®* microcapsules remain active.

Relaxing aromatherapy

Clothes have always fulfilled a variety of functions – be it fashion, warmth, protection, or support. However, wouldn’t it be good if they could do more? Soothe your feet. Fend off mosquitoes. Help you relax. Refresh and cool you down. With Skintex®*, they can. Skintex®* from Cognis is an innovative technology that adds extra value to clothes and tolerates several washes. Take moisturizing, for example: Based on slow release microcapsules, Skintex®* uses cosmetic and natural derived ingredients that have a real effect on your well-being.

The principle is simple: The Skintex®* microcapsules, undetectable with the naked eye, are firmly anchored within the fabric of a textile, not affecting the look and feel of your textiles. They are filled with high-grade ingredients which are, over time, slowly released onto your skin. A protective layer of chitosan – made from the shells of shrimps – protects each capsule, saving its content from warmth, drying out, and the cold, and giving it durability against the wear and tear of day-to-day life. At the same time, chitosan helps to protect the skin from dehydration and keeps a supple and velvety soft feeling.

The ingredients are released through two mechanisms: Firstly, there’s the light friction you create when wearing your clothes. Secondly, the chitosan layer is slowly reduced over time through your body’s own enzymes – activating the ingredients and enabling them to move from the fabric into your skin, refining her structure. Every fabric, be it a natural or synthetic material, can be fitted with Skintex®*. This can be achieved through existing manufacturing processes – so there is no need to buy additional machines to incorporate Skintex®* into your fabrics.

The contents are well-known skin care ingredients. Moisturizing cream for example consists of cosmetic and natural derived ingredients, water, and oil. As textiles generally cannot be equipped with an unlimited number of microcapsules, a very high percentage of ingredients in each microcapsule is essential for attaining the care effect. The Skintex®* care complex is so highly concentrated that even when the smallest amounts are released, the effect on the skin can be seen and felt.

The ingredients in almost all of the Skintex®* products are sourced direct from nature – precious essential oils derived from the cold-pressed peel of plants, herbs and fruits, or carefully distilled from blossoms and leaves. They are dermatologically tested and fulfill the criteria for certification under the Ecotex standard 100. Combined in sophisticated formulas, these oils form high-grade ingredients that are anchored into the textile.

Washing Skintex®* treated items does not mean the end of enjoyment. A number of microcapsules will survive the wash and start working again as soon as the item is worn. In fact, even after several washes, when the effects of the microcapsules are no longer perceptible, the ingredients still go on working. Traces of Vitamin E, for instance, so small they can only be detected by analysis, continue to protect against premature skin aging. So, depending on the type of textile being used, up to 45 percent of the active Skintex®* agents will still remain after ten washes at 40°C, if washed according to instructions. The best way to get the most out of Skintex®* treated garments is, of course, to wash them by hand.
