Warp yarns often only become weavable when they are properly sized. Pulcra Chemicals designs optimal size formulations to ensure that high-speed weaving machines do what they should – function trouble-free, 24 hours a day, with well over 90 percent availability – or even a little more.
Machine stoppage is just one, though perhaps the most inconvenient, kind of trouble. Achieving the highest possible quality weaving requires effective prevention of sloughing, pilling, linting, and yarn breakage. Where up to 10,000 tautly strung warp yarns flick up and down at breathtaking speed to let the weft yarns through, resistance to friction is an absolute must. In weaving, everything really does hinge on the quality of the size: The more resistant and smooth the film that protects the yarns from rubbing and splitting, the fewer production stoppages there will be.

Only Pulcra Chemicals really offers all raw materials from a single source. Depending on the requirements, we will select film-forming polymers from all possible classes. Our range includes natural oils and fats for the sizing bath and lubricants/rewaxing agents as well as synthetic oils and polymers for cold sizing. We offer starch, galactomannan, and cellulose derivatives, PVA and copolymers as staple fiber sizes, and also have Polyester resins for filament sizing.
