THE MOST ECOLOGICAL WAY FROM COTTON TO JEANS.


Brands are becoming more environmentally conscious in their choice of materials and suppliers, taking into account the growing importance of sustainable textile production. Reducing wastewater and its ingredients is an important part of saving costs, increasing quality and protecting the environment. By using BREVIOL® Denim Technology (BDT) in indigo and sulfur dyeing, the amount of water needed to wash out the unfixed dye is reduced to a minimum. BREVIOL® Denim Technology (BDT) is based on a polymer that reacts with both the dye and the fiber. This technology not only saves the planet, but is also a cost-saving solution as less water is used in the process and the amount of dyes used can be reduced. For more information, click here.

SPINNING PREPARATIONS FROM RENEWABLE RAW MATERIALS FOR NONWOVEN APPLICATIONS

Pulcra Chemicals has a long history of using renewable resources to produce biodegradable and environmentally friendly products. For many years, we have produced sizing products based on natural polymers with film-forming properties. These polymers ensure trouble-free production in the weaving mill – 24 h a day, with maximum efficiency.

GOTS

The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is recognized as the world’s leading standard for processing textiles made from organically produced natural fibers. The standard covers the processing, manufacturing, packaging, labeling, trading and distribution of all textiles made from at least 70% certified fibers from plants or animals from certified organic agriculture or animal husbandry. The end products can be, but are not limited to, fiber products, yarns, fabrics, apparel and home textiles. Pulcra Chemicals’ product portfolio includes a variety of products that meet GOTS requirements.

ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT SYSTEM ACCORDING TO ISO

ISO 50001 is a standard published in 2011 by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) for systematic energy management. It supports companies in identifying potential savings, reducing energy consumption and initiating a continuous energy-related improvement process.

ISO 9001:2015 defines the criteria for a quality management system. It can be applied by any organization, large or small, regardless of its area of activity. This standard is based on a set of quality management principles, including a strong customer focus, motivation and involvement of top management, the process approach, and continuous improvement. The application of ISO 9001:2015 helps ensure that customers receive products and services of consistently good quality.

ISO 14001: This international standard specifies the requirements for an effective environmental management system (EMS). It provides a framework for an organization to follow and does not specify environmental performance requirements. Part of the ISO 14000 family of environmental management standards, ISO 14001 is a voluntary standard to which organizations may seek certification. Integration with other management system standards, particularly ISO 9001, can further support the achievement of organizational goals.

INDITEX has developed a set of different guidelines to compile the minimum requirements and best practices to comply with INDITEX Product Health standard, Clear To Wear. This manufacturing code is intended for all INDITEX direct suppliers and their supply chains, including dyeing and printing mills, laundries and tanneries.

LEATHER NATURALLY

Leather Naturally promotes the use of globally produced, sustainable leather and aims to inspire and educate designers, manufacturers and consumers about its natural elegance, beauty, quality and versatility.

LEATHER WORKING GROUP

The Leather Working Group is a non-profit organization responsible for the world’s leading environmental certification for the leather processing industry. It consists of member brands, tanneries, chemical suppliers, leather manufacturers of apparel-shoe-furniture, retailers and technical experts. The group promotes improvements in the leather processing industry by aligning environmental priorities, highlighting best practices and providing guidelines for continuous improvement.

Pulcra Chemicals has been a member since April 2017.

OEKO-TEX® consists of 17 independent institutes in Europe and Japan. Together, they continuously develop test methods and limit values for the textile and leather industry. STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® is a globally uniform, independent testing and certification system for textile raw materials, semi-finished and finished products at all stages of processing, as well as for the auxiliary materials used. The focus of STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® is the development of test criteria, limit values and test methods on a scientific basis. Testing is carried out on the basis of the comprehensive OEKO-TEX® criteria catalog, taking into account numerous regulated and non-regulated substances. In many cases, the test criteria and limit values go far beyond the applicable national and international standards.

Pulcra Chemicals’ product portfolio includes a wide range of products that meet OEKO-TEX® requirements.

REACH is the European Chemicals Act and stands for Registration, Evaluation and Authorization of Chemicals.

REACH came into force on June 1, 2007, replacing the previous chemicals legislation in the European Union. The main objectives of REACH are to ensure a high level of protection for human health and the environment. In addition, the legislator wants to promote alternative testing methods to avoid animal testing and to strengthen the innovation and competitiveness of companies. Under REACH, the manufacturer or importer bears more responsibility than in the past for assessing the use-specific risks posed by chemicals and for providing users with appropriate safety information.

Based on the available information from our suppliers and our current knowledge of the product composition, we can confirm that all substances subject to registration have been registered by us or by our upstream suppliers or are exempt from registration. For further information, please refer to the Safety Data Sheets (SDSs) of our products.

The Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) is a global multi-stakeholder initiative for sustainable palm oil products. Since December 12, 2017, Fashion Chemicals GmbH & Co KG (holding company of the Pulcra Chemicals Group) is a member of the RSPO initiative. The aim is to develop, formulate and market new products based on certified palm oil and palm kernel oil.

How it works

This Grievance Procedure has been established at Pulcra Chemicals GmbH to address grievances from parties, including individuals, government organizations and non-governmental organizations concerning the implementation of Pulcra’spalm oil policy. We recognise that providing this feedback mechanism for stakeholders is important because it helps in the monitoring of compliance with the palm oil policy throughout our operations and supply chain. The Grievance Procedure also promotes transparency and accountability. We hold ourselves and our suppliers accountable to respond to grievances, set time-bound action plans to ensure progress and close the grievance in a timely manner as agreed to by the complainant.

As per our Grievance Procedure, we will investigate all cases which are received. Based on the evidence received to date, we will assess the case via engagement with relevant parties and decide whether the reported issue is a grievance case or shall be classified as ineligible grievances and will not be further investigated.

ZDHC

In the 2nd edition of the Joint Roadmap to Prevent Hazardous Chemicals (ZDHC), companies participating in the ZDHC commit to defining and developing a Manufacturing Restricted Substances List (MRSL) for the apparel and footwear industry. The ZDHC MRSL addresses hazardous substances that may be used in manufacturing and related processes and released into the environment. It is not limited to only those substances that may be present in the final products.

The ZDHC MRSL is a list of chemical substances that are subject to restricted use, i.e., the chemical substance or group of substances listed in the MRSL may not be used to achieve a desired function or effect in the manufacture of the raw materials or product (i.e., no intentional use). Due to existing impurities in the manufacture of chemical formulations, a minimum amount or trace amounts of the restricted use substance are allowed if they are within certain concentration limits. Chemical formulations in which the contained restricted use substances exceed these limits are not compliant with the MRSL.

Restricted substances and groups of substances according to the MRSL of the ZDHC (see MRSL for details on chemicals and individual limits) are:

  • Alkylphenol (AP) and alkylphenol ethoxylates ( APEOs)
  • Chlorobenzenes & Chlorotoluenes
  • Chlorophenols
  • Dyestuffs – Azo (formation of restricted amines)
  • Dyes – Navy Blue Dye
  • Dyes – carcinogenic or of equivalent concern
  • Dyes – Disperse (sensitizing)
  • Flame retardants
  • Glycols
  • Halogenated solvents
  • Organotin compounds
  • Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs)
  • Perfluorinated and polyfluorinated chemicals (PFCs)
  • Phthalates – including all other esters of ortho-phthalic acid
  • Total heavy metals
  • Volatile organic compounds (VOC)

Please note that according to the information available to us from our raw material suppliers, the products currently offered by us (see product list) do not contain any of these substances or substance groups as knowingly added raw materials or impurities above the limits specified in the MRSL. According to the information available to us, none of these substances are knowingly generated during production.
